Superstitions and taboos

Well from the dawn of civilization Superstitions and taboos have been part of our social life. Some silly, some weird some unexplainable, well people have reasons to believe them. So this thread is all about such practices and believes. If you are aware of any such believes then do mention them here. But bear in mind the sole purpose of this thread is to share your information regarding the topic. So please don't make any rude or irrelevant compliments to anyone.Its just meant for entertainment.

Well lemme mention one such believes still practiced today. I come from a tribe called the Rengma, and in our community its considered bad omen to talk while having meals. People have quiet meals, it is believed that the spirit who provides us with nourishment is around to see how content his peoples are. So talking is forbidden as it may provoke or offend the spirit. Lucky me my i was born a christian and we have pleasant conversations while having meals :-)
